Family
“My great-grandfather and his two brothers fought at Gettysburg. They were in artillery and they survived the war, thank goodness. So, I revere what they did. I think their motivations were honorable when they undertook the war and participated in it along with other Southerners.
“I was totally dominated by my father. I revered my father. I admired everything he did. He was a great sports person. He loved me. I was his only boy at that time, before my brother Billy came along.”
Jimmy Carter was happily married to his wife Rosalynn from July 7, 1946 to Nov 19, 2023 for 77 years until her death at the age of 96 years. They had first met when he was 3 years old and she was a day old.
Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn had three sons and a daughter.
After Rosalynn's death on November 19, 2023, Carter released the following statement: “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished. She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
