Woodrow Wilson was anxious regarding his finance after retirement. In that era Presidents of the US did not receive any pension. At the time the Nobel Prize was awarded to him, the Swedish Crown exchange value was going down. He decided to leave the money in a Swedish bank hoping that it would gain 5% interest.
