Medal Cash and Philanthropy

Jewish Hans Krebs had fled Nazi Germany to the UK.

In July 2015 Hans Krebs’s Nobel Prize medal was auctioned at Sotheby's in London for £225,000 (around $351,225). The money was to be used by the Sir Hans Krebs Trust to help refugee who had to flee their home countries and who were scientists and doctoral students in biomedicine and chemistry.

The Krebs family held the opinion that instead of the medal being kept in a dusty case, it would be better to use it for science.
