Nobel Prize Cash & Philanthropy

Godfrey Hounsfield was very frugal. He was not one to spend much money on himself. He even declined the offer of a sabbatical by his employer, EMI. He used a small amount of his Nobel Prize money to buy scientific material to use in the living room of his small house. In 1972 Hounsfield was awarded the MacRobert award by the Council of Engineering Institutions. He placed the prize money of £25,000 in reserve to be used for any new research idea that would come to his mind.
