George Hitchings donated the entire Nobel Prize money to the Triangle Community Foundation, North Carolina. In 1983 he had been the founder of the foundation. In the Research Triangle Park area, the foundation financially supports health care for the poor, protection for battered women, sending poor children to camps and other services.
